Dress Code
-
Uniforms are to be worn from the first
day of school to the last.
-
-
A plaid jumper (skirt for seventh and eighth graders),
tailored white blouses, socks (solid white or dark gray tights), a medium
gray sweater (if one is worn). Socks may be solid white or dark gray knee
socks (worn to the knees) or solid white Bobby Sox. Uniforms must be of
modest length (1 inch above the knee). Solid navy blue dress slacks (from
the uniform store) or navy blue dress corduroy may be worn as an alternate
uniform.
-
-
A white button down dress shirt or solid white knit placket
collar shirt, navy blue dress pants or navy blue corduroy pants (no cargo
pockets/-pockets midway down on the legs), solid white or navy blue socks
(no short socks), a medium gray sweater (if one is worn). For both boys
and girls, shirts or blouses must be tucked in completely and pants must
be worn at the waist and may not sag.
-
NO JEANS, FADED BLUE PANTS OR EXTREME STYLES ARE PERMITTED.
-
Shoes must be hard sole dress shoes or ALL LEATHER athletic
shoes. This is to clarify the definition of "hard sole shoe". The sole
should be a hard sole (very similar to a "loafer").
-
"Lug" soles will not be permitted. Lug soles may be defined
as a rubber sole with deep or heavy depressions/or knobs. Lug soles can be
found on work boots, hiking boots, etc. For further clarification, shoes
with lug soles have speed lacing.
-
As always, clogs, high heels, or sandals may not be worn.
Sweatshirts
-
Sweatshirts may only be purchased
through the uniform store, or through the Home and School Association. The
following guidelines will be followed:
-
The acceptable sweatshirt will be the gray embroidered St.
Michael logo sweatshirt (Plaid M; Gold M; and the Gold T).
-
The sweatshirt must be sized to fit; i.e., oversized
sweatshirts will not be permitted. Therefore, if a sweatshirt is deemed
oversized by the administration, the child will be asked to remove the
sweatshirt while in school. Please keep this point in mind when purchasing
sweatshirts.
-
The sweatshirt must be worn over the regular uniform; i.e.,
uniform shirts must be worn.
Seasonal Dress
-
Children may wear a solid white turtleneck UNDER a long
sleeve shirt or blouse in cold weather.
-
During the months of August, September, May and June, the
children may wear solid navy blue UNIFORM dress shorts (PURCHASED ONLY AT
THE UNIFORM SHOP).
-
Both boys and girls may wear either the solid white placket
collar shirt or white dress shirt/blouse with the uniform shorts.
Grooming and Hygiene
-
Good grooming and
personal hygiene are required at all times.
-
Tinted or dyed hair is not permitted.
-
Hair must be at least 1/4" in length.
-
A boy's hair may not exceed the top of the ear nor go beyond
the top of the collar or eyebrow.
-
Extreme hair styles are not acceptable.
-
No makeup or nail polish may be worn to school.
-
Girls may wear one pair of post earrings (no dangling
earrings) at the bottom of the ear.
-
No other jewelry may be worn in school.
-
Tattoos are not permitted.
-
Girls may not wear men's T-shirts under their blouses.
-
Boys may wear solid white T-shirts under their shirts.
Gym Uniform
-
St. Michael School's Physical Education uniform
consists of a shirt and shorts. These may be purchased at the bookstore. The
cost is $7.00 each. A small plastic bag will be needed to hold the clothes
for gym changes
Policy
-
The school has the right to expect students to arrive
at school dressed in accordance with the uniform policy adopted by the St.
Michael School Board. Violations of the policy will be called to the
attention of the parents, and on a repeated offense the child will be sent
home to correct the violation. In the event an emergency arises in which the
child comes to school without his or her uniform, the parents should send a
note of explanation. The only exception to the uniform policy is the Scout
and Brownie uniforms worn once a week.
