History of St. Michael School
On September 3, 1946, Father John Byrne, our
founding pastor, and two Joliet Franciscan sisters opened St. Michael Elementary
School with forty-four pupils in attendance. Since that time, many things
in education have changed, but the one thing that has remained constant is the
"why" we exist. The purpose of our school is to educate every child to the fullest of his or her potential and, most importantly, to prepare our children to take a place in the world they will inherit as Catholic adults. What children learn in school today must prepare them for what they will face tomorrow. Certainly, this is true of living in society as good Catholics. We live in a hectic, turbulent, often frustrating and discouraging world. We also live in a world that makes daily progress against disease, against social injustice, and against the darkness of ignorance. We live in a world that vibrates with promise -- the promise of an exciting and fulfilling world of tomorrow for all. It is in our school, in close and vital cooperation with our parents, that we will assume the job of educating today's children for that world of tomorrow,. Working together, we can prepare our children to face that world armed with the faith, the knowledge, the skills, and the courage they will need. Together, at St. Michael School, we can give our children the future -- and it will be bright indeed. |
