Athletic Association

The Saint Michael Athletic Association (SMAA) is dedicated to providing athletics opportunities for the children of our parish and school by supplying organization, encouragement, and funding. We procure coaches, state-of-the-art equipment and uniforms, and awards for participants, as well as handling league administration and fees. Additionally, the SMAA awards scholarships to four graduating 8th graders who will attend local Catholic high schools. Other recent SMAA efforts include projects to improve our outdoor athletics facilities, and establishing the “300 Club” that was responsible for a complete renovation of the St. Michael School gymnasium.

Sports currently offered by the SMAA are:
  • Fall (Aug-Oct): Cheerleading, Cross-Country, Football*, Golf, Soccer*, and Volleyball*
  • Winter (Nov-Feb): Basketball* and Cheerleading
  • Spring (Mar-Jun): Baseball*, Lacrosse, Softball*, and Track*
* indicates sports run by the Diocese Recreation Association (DRA)
Most sports are available for 4th-8th grade boys and girls who are students at St. Michael School or who attend PSR classes at St. Michael, St. Peter, or St. Joan of Arc. To find out more about sports and to register, see the SMAA website: www.smtrojans.com
Fundraising efforts sponsored by the SMAA help defray the costs of our athletics programs to assist all interested students to be able to participate. Fundraisers also fully fund the scholarships and support other special projects like major equipment and uniform purchases, the gym renovation, and other facility upgrades. Fundraising efforts for 2013-14 include the concession stand, the Spring Dance & Silent Auction (April 5, 2014) and the Golf Outing (June 13, 2014 at Glenross).
For adults who want to get involved, opportunities are available to help with coaching, concession stand, fundraising, and event coordination or assistance. Any person 18 years old or over who is affiliated with St. Michael Parish or School can participate. The SMAA meets the 2nd Sunday of each month to review status for each sport and to plan for upcoming seasons and events. (Fingerprinting, background check, and completion of “Protecting God’s Children” training is required for any adult who will be interacting with children.)
